Anna Mae Young

1932 - November 18, 2023

Anna Mae Young, 91, of LaPlata, MD formerly of Port Norris passed away at the home of her son, Daryl on Saturday, November 18, 2023. Born in Exmore, Virginia to the late Cecil W. Upsher and Ruth Patti Williams, she was the wife of the late Clarence A. Young, Sr. Anna had been a resident of LaPlata, MD since 2017 and prior to that she had been a Port Norris resident most of her life. Before her retirement, she had worked at the Vineland Developmental Center for over 12 years where she had achieved the position of supervisor. Post retirement she had worked in the oyster industry with Robbins Bros. Oyster Co. in Port Norris until moving to MD. She was so good at oyster shucking that she won an award for it at Bay Day in Bivalve. She was a member of Agape Missionary Baptist Church in Suitland, MD and a former member of Fruit of the Spirit Ministries in Bridgeton where she served as church mother to both congregations. In her free time, Anna enjoyed shopping and playing board games especially Connect Four, Uno and dominoes. She also spent much of her free time volunteering and worshiping at her churches. In 2015, she was honored as a Port Norris Legend. She is survived by; three children, Michael L. Young of Port Norris, Isimae E. Young of Bridgeton and Daryl T. Young (Jeanette) of LaPlata, MD; her siblings, Alfonso Upsher (Brenda) of CA and Paula Brown of Glassboro; 15 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Clarence A. Young, she was preceded in death by; four children, Dutchess G. Brooks, Winston B. Young, Mark E. Young and Muriel A. Young and six siblings, Cecil W. Upsher, Jr., Clara E. Gardner, George Thomas Upsher, Ruth M. Milbourne, Henry L. Pierce and Edward L. Daniels. Funeral Services will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church, 2411 Memorial Ave., Port Norris on Saturday, December 2nd at 12 Noon. Interment will take place at Haleyville Methodist Cemetery in Commercial Twp. Friends will be received at the church from 10 AM to 12 Noon prior to the services.
