July 5

On account of the rain yesterday all the best part of our celecration had to be omitted, but the parade, headed by the Dividing Creek band, was very nice and when they moved into the hall after the rain a large crowd followed and heard some good speaking and music. The Post promises to give us the sham battle in the near future.

Walter Riggins was in Port Norris Wednesday night.

Joseph Low spent the Fourth in Port Norris.

Stultz Rowley is at home from Sea Isle City.

The game of base ball between the Cedarville and Port Norris nines could not be played yesterday on account of the rain.

Will Yates is at home from Lakewood.

Elwood Hubbs spent the Fourth among friends in this place.

J. Spencer Rogers and wife were in your city to-day.

Mrs. John Owens was in Bridgeton to-day.

July 8

Wm. H. Parsons, of Solomon's Island, Md., was looking around Port Norris last week.

The Port Norris Brass Band is about to come to life again.

Miss Mellie Chambers, of Newport, was visiting Station Agent W. S. Chambers, last week.

A game of base ball was played in this place on Saturday between the Port Norris club and a picked nine, resulting in a score of 12 to 11 in favor of the picked nine.

Miss Lizzie Page, of Newport, was visiting Miss Lena Ferguson last week.

Richard Robbins was in your city to-day on business.

July 10

Dr. E. B. Sharp was in Port Norris on Monday.

Frank Pepper is visiting in Bridgeton.

Jesse Prichard, Jr., was in your city Monday on business.

Mrs. Frank Howard returned last night from a brief visit in Bridgeton.

Captain Hammett Lake had his and Mrs. James Morris' Sunday school classes out in the cove to-day and there is no doubt they had a good time.

The Port Norris and Picked nines played their second game of ball yesterday. The score was 14 to 3 in favor of the Picked nine. We think it would be better for the Port Norris club to send the Picked nine to Cedarville on Thursday.

Miss Laura Vail is visiting in Bridgeton.

Miss Eva Lloyd has returned from Millville and Miss Lida Getsinger came home with her to spend a few days in this place.

Thomas Hand, Sr., and Miss Lena Ferguson were in your city to-day.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Peace were visiting in Dorchester yesterday.

Miss Ida Bingham, of Heislerville, is visiting at Miss Eva Lloyd's.

Conductor Frank Howard had ripe tomatoes for dinner on Monday, which were grown in his own garden.

 

July 11

The pleasure yacht Monarch was lying at Long Reach yesterday.

T. G. Compton and Socrates Green paid a brief visit to Bridgeton yesterday.

The tug-boat Schuylor went up the river yesterday with the three-masted schooner Marian in tow.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stites are visiting in Haleyville.

W. E. Snell has moved his spar yard up to the North end of Long Reach.

The sloop Mayflower is hauled out on the railroad for repairs.

July 15

A coal vessel went ashore out in the cove near East Point last week. The tug boat S. W. Schuyler came down the river Saturday night and succeeded in putting her off without any serious damage.

Capt. Charles McDaniels has taken a very fine animal on trial, in the shape of a mule. There is no doubt but that the captain will purchase the mule as he is a very fine beast and will make him a good roadster.

Two very serious looking men were seen going into the K. of P. hall Saturday night.

Master G. Wesley Chambers has returned home from Newport where he has been visiting S. H. Chambers.

Daniel B. Ferguson, Jr., spent a couple of days in Newport last week.

Belford Harris spent the Sabbath in Cedarville.

Elwood Hubbs, of your city, spent the Sabbath in this place.

Mrs. Daniel Turner was in Bridgeton on Saturday.

George Robbins, Sr., was in your city Saturday, on business.

Harry Green spent the Sabbath at his home in this place.

Captain Fox is in Cedarville to-day.

July 17

The Cedarville Base Ball Club failed to put in an appearance on Monday and a game was played between the Port Norris and a picked nine, resulting in a score of 11 to 8 in favor of Port Norris.

Captain Thomas Hearn has been on a two days' business trip to Hammonton and Philadelphia.

Miss Jennie Bateman, of Newport, is visiting relatives in this place.

Warrington Hand took a stage load to Bridgeton yesterday to witness the races.

James Mulvey was in Cedarville Monday on business.

Master Willie Chambers is visiting relatives in Newport.
