Capt Blackman Succumbs At 100
Active in Oyster Industry 88 Years
Captain Smith S Blackman, for 88 years engaged in the oyster industry in the Port Norris area and who last November 1 marked his 100th birthday, died last night at his residence 101 E Main St, Port Norris following an illness of only three weeks.
The deceased, believed to be the oldest living resident of this area, was a lifelong resident of Port Norris and began in the oyster industry as a young boy and in later years owned his own boats and grounds in the Delaware Bay.

His wife, the late Ethelinda Davidson Blackman, died last May at the age of 92 years. Although in late years his vision had been somewhat impaired as was his hearing, Capt Blackman retained a keen mind and on his 100th birthday recalled many remarkable details of his early years in the oyster industry. He frequently enjoyed automobile rides with members of his family and his friends when weather conditions permitted.

Surviving are 11 children including seven daughters, Mrs. Blanche Craig, Stuart, Florida; Mrs Abbie Johnson, Bridgeton; Mrs. Edna England, Washington DC; Mrs Cornelia Mount, Havertown, Pa; Mrs Elsie Je!ries, Port Norris, and Misses Elizabeth Blackman and Lucy Blackman, Port Norris; four sons, Leslie and Morton Blackman of Miami, Florida; Carl Blackman of Greenwich and Belford Blackman,
Bridgeton, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Two children preceded him in death, a daughter Mary Day Blackman who died 18 years ago and a son Paul Blackman who passed away four years ago.

Funeral services will be held form the late residence in Port Norris on Thursday a"ernoon at 2 o'clock with interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Cedarville. Viewing will be at the late residence Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 o'clock.
