Charles Moore, Sr.
Recognized as a Legend of Port Norris on November 8, 2015

Charles O. Moore Sr. 85, of Port Norris died Saturday after a lengthy illness, at home surrounded by his family. Charles was born in Port Norris and a life time resident, he was the son of the late Charles O. and Lena Phillips Moore and the husband of Jean Tevis Moore. 

Charles was a World War II Navy Veteran serving on the USS Sampson as a Fireman First Class. After his War time service he worked for Newcomb Bros. at the Bivalve Co-op. He also worked for Stowman Bros. Ship Yard in Dorchester and retired from Petinos Sand Plant in Port Elizabeth. Charles was a Lifetime member of the Port Norris Fire Co., and was a member of the Port Norris V.F.W. Post No. 5539. He served as Commercial Township Clerk for many years. 

Surviving are his wife Jean, son, Charles O. Moore Jr. and his wife Lynn, daughter Jean Mason and her husband John, all of Port Norris, grandchildren, John C. Mason, Dawn M. Navone, Jaime L. Berry, Melissa Moore, and Alan Moore, great grandchildren, Tyler Berry, Jessica D. Berry, John Mason Jr., and Shane Moore. He was predeceased by a son Gary W. Moore. 

Funeral services will be held at the HOFFMAN FUNERAL HOMES 2507 High St. Port Norris on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006 at noon. Interment will be in Haleyville Cemetery. Viewing will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon. Memorial donations may be sent to South Jersey Health Care HospiceCare 2848 S. Delsea Dr. Vineland, N.J. 08360.
